Honoring the Centennial of World War I
Saturday, July 14
1 – 4 p.m.

World War I remains America’s forgotten war, even though it profoundly shaped the rest of “the American century.” This special day will explore the causes, courses and consequences of the war, and honor the heroism and sacrifice of those who served. U.S. Naval War College Curator Rob Doane will explore the war’s historical underpinnings and Norman Rockwell Museum Curator of Education Tom Daly will discuss Rockwell’s World War I experiences and art. A reading of two scenes from work-in-progress Either Side of Zero, a new play by R.B. Breese that looks at poetry and family through World War One poets Joyce Kilmer – who died in battle on July 30th, 1918 – and Rupert Brooke, who died in 1915.  Three young actors from the Berkshire region will read, directed by R.B. Breese. Free for Museum members, or included with Museum admission.
