Norman Rockwell Museum will present a poetry reading and book signing with Randall R. Freisinger, author of “Nostalgia’s Thread: Ten Poems on Norman Rockwell’s Paintings,” on Saturday, October 9, starting at 1 p.m. The poems in “Nostalgia’s Thread” reconsider the American experience as depicted in ten of Rockwell’s best-known paintings. Admission to the poetry reading and book signing is free with regular Museum admission.Randall R. Freisinger, Ph.D, is an award-winning poet and Professor Emeritus in Humanities at Michigan Technological University. “Nostalgia’s Thread” is Dr. Freisinger’s third chapbook-length collection of poetry; his two previous chapbooks are “Hand Shadows” (Green Tower Press, 1988) and “Running Patterns,” which won the Flume Press Chapbook Award in 1985. His full-length book, “Plato’s Breath,” won the May Swenson Poetry Award from Utah State University Press in 1996. The first reinstallation of Norman Rockwell’s Stockbridge Studio, “A Day in the Life” brings visitors back to October 1960, when the artist was hard at work on one of his most famous “Saturday Evening Post” covers, “The Golden Rule.” Recently digitized, an extensive archive of photographic negatives has made the exact recreation of a moment in time possible. Studies for “The Golden Rule” and other “Post” covers, Rockwell’s palette, paint tubes and props will be on view.
