Commentary by Dennis Nolan, Exhibition Curator, at 6:00 p.m.

Organized by Norman Rockwell Museum and curated by illustrator/historian Dennis Nolan, Keepers of the Flame: Parrish, Wyeth, Rockwell and the Narrative Tradition traces the unbreakable thread connecting American illustration, and legendary artists Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Norman Rockwell, to the roots of European painting through their own revered teachers. At the heart of this story are Parrish’s lush neoclassical fantasies, Wyeth’s vibrant compositions and characters inspired by classic literature; and Rockwell’s iconic humanistic portrayals for popular twentieth century publications.  Free for members, $20 for not-yet members

Land Acknowledgement

It is with gratitude and humility that we acknowledge that we are learning, speaking and gathering on the ancestral homelands of the Mohican people, who are the indigenous peoples of this land on which the Norman Rockwell Museum was built. Despite tremendous hardship in being forced from here, today their community resides in Wisconsin and is known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. We pay honor and respect to their ancestors past and present as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all.
