Happy New Year from Norman Rockwell Museum. We start 2014 with an exciting list of exhibitions and programs for the whole family.

On Saturday, January 11, celebrate the art of dance during our afternoon family day (1 to 4 p.m.). Inspired by our current exhibition, Dancing Princesses: The Fairy Tale Art of Ruth Sanderson, the day will include performances by the talented dancers of Berkshire Ballroom, who will demonstrate and teach basic ballroom steps. Other highlights include drop-in art activities, an illustrated look at the history of dance with Eugenia Kim, and an exploration of the expressive movement art, Eurythmy with dancer Francesca Margulies.

The following Saturday, January 18, at 2 p.m., meet author Jane Allen Petrick, whose new book, Hidden in Plain Sight: The Other People in Norman Rockwell’s America, explores for the first time, the stories of Asian, African, and Native Americans who appeared in Rockwell’s artwork. Petrick will discuss her intensive research, partially conducted at Norman Rockwell Museum, which made the book possible. Refreshments and a book signing will also be offered.

On Monday, January 20, celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day with a look at Norman Rockwell’s civil rights-era paintings at 2:30 p.m. Norman Rockwell Museum Curator of Education Tom Daly will look at such iconic Rockwell images as The Golden Rule, The Problem We All Live With, and New Kids in the Neighborhood.

All programs are free with regular Museum admission or membership.
