It was a veritable “who’s who” of talented illustrators and designers on hand for the opening of Norman Rockwell Museum’s newest exhibition, Istvan Banyai: Stranger in a Strange Land, on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Nearly 200 visitors attended the opening, and found themselves charmed by both the artwork and words of the acclaimed Hungarian-born illustrator.
In addition to Mr. Banyai, who addressed the crowd and graciously signed copies of such books as Zoom and The Other Side, other illustrators present included fellow New Yorker cover artists, Barry Blitt and R.O. Blechman (whose own “Distinguished Illustrator” exhibition opens at the Museum on May 11); Scott Bakal; Guy Billout; Seymour Chwast; Kinuko Craft; Etienne Delessert; Christoph Hitz; Victor Juhasz; Nora Krug; Wendell Minor; Marc Rosenthal; and Murray Tinkelman, who also offered opening remarks.
Guests at the opening also enjoyed an assortment of Hungarian food and refreshments (provided by Otto’s Hungarian Import Store) in honor of the talented Mr. Banyai.
For those who missed the opening, you have the opportunity to meet the artist on Saturday, March 23, as he returns for an ART TALK at Norman Rockwell Museum. Istvan Banyai: Stranger in a Strange Land will be on view at the Museum through May 5.
