Thursday, August 18, 5:30 p.m.
Meet Blue Sky Studios’ Lighting Supervisor Jim Gettinger, who will discuss lighting and lighting design as it pertains to the overall aesthetic of the studio’s latest animated hit, Rio. Explore Gettinger’s developmental work for the movie, through such stages as concept art, pre-visualization, master lighting, and compositing. He will also highlight the artistic and technical challenges the studio faced in developing a stylized vision of the Rio de Janeiro, and believable characters using Blue Sky Studios’ groundbreaking, proprietary photo-realistic software, CGI Studio.
The talk is presented as part of the Museum’s “Blue Sky & Beyond” summer program series, held in conjunction with its new exhibition “Ice Age” to the Digital Age: The 3D Animation Art of Blue Sky Studios. The event is free for Museum members, or with regular Museum admission.
